Hiring the right contractor to do your stamped concrete is critical to the success of the project. We would like to offer you some tips and advice to help you make a more informed choice.
  • Always get more than one estimate. This gives you a price range and an opportunity to compare the contractors.
  • Talk to the contractors when they come to look at your project. ASK QUESTIONS! Find out how long they've been working with concrete. How many years have they done STAMPED CONCRETE? Ask them to go over their procedure. What steps do they take when installing the concrete? Ask about the color they use. There should be two colors, a base color (an admix or a color hardener) and a release color. Do they use quality products? Find out where they get their color. Ask them about the saw cuts or control joints. Proper layout of the saw cuts is a key factor to controlling cracks and shrinkage.
  • Ask for a referral list. Any contractor with experience should have an available list of former customers you can contact.
  • USE THAT REFERRAL LIST. Call a few people from each list. Ask them if they were satisfied with the contractor. Did they fulfill the contract in a timely manner, do what they proposed, and leave the site clean? If there was a problem after the final payment, did the contractor return phone calls?
  • Go out and look at some of the work the contractor has already done. Is the color consisitent, are the formed edges smooth and even, does the pattern run straight throughout its course?

Finding the right contractor can be time consuming. You may not be able to do all of these things, but, if you take the time to do a little checking, you could save yourself a lot of aggravation and money.
